Special Events

Throughout the year, RPI Ballroom hosts and participates in signature events. Check the home page slideshow or the calendar for upcoming event dates and locations.

NRB Destination Dance

A "Navigating Rensselaer and Beyond" day trip, Destination Dance offers incoming freshmen an opportunity to experience their choices for dance. Hosted by the RPI Dance Club and the Ballroom Club, students will have the opportunity to learn jazz, hip hop, swing, and salsa with instructors and upper-class students in this workshop. Throughout the day, students will rotate through all dance styles. This is a great opportunity to meet new students, learn some fun dance moves, and get acquainted with these two clubs!

NRB Swing Revival

Since the dawn of humanity, humans have enjoyed nothing more than flinging themselves about. Due to accidental tumbles off nearby cliffs and unfortunate encounters with large stationary objects, it became clear that some structure was necessary and so dancing was invented. Our favorite result of this invention is the Lindy Hop – the granddaddy of swing dancing. Incoming freshmen can choose this crash course on the dance that started it all.

Introduction Dance

At the beginning of each semester, the Ballroom Club throws this social dance for prospective dancers. One of our instructors holds a free lesson for attendees, which is followed by a social dance. The Introduction Dance aims to provide a general idea of what the Club is like, as well as a chance to meet new people.

Jump, Jive, and Jazz!

Swing dance late into the night to the live music of RPI's Jazz Ensembles and The Campus Serenaders! This semesterly event draws crowds that fills the room with the energy that music and dancing are all about. Don't miss the opportunity to practice your swing moves learned thus far.

RPI Ballroom Competition

Held in April, RPI and the Ballroom Team hosts this regional DanceSport competition. Attended by dozens of schools and institutions, this event not only gives a chance for Team members to compete. It is open to spectators and lasts the entire day.

Monthly USA Dance

Every third Sunday of the month, the Capital District USA Dance chapter holds a social dance in the Albany area. Admission for college students is $5, USA Dance members $9, and non-USA Dance members $12. The lesson starts at 6:15pm, and general dancing is from 7-10pm.
